Our program runs from Monday, June 6 through Friday, July 30.  Our community goal this summer is 500,000 minutes of reading!  We can do it!

CHILDREN:

You can earn badges by logging reading minutes. For each 2 hours of reading you log, you will earn tickets which you will enter in the end of program prize drawings. Thanks to our wonderful partners and donors, you will also receive the following prizes: a Blank Park Zoo pass, a special treat at Dutch Oven Bakery, tickets to enjoy a train ride, tickets to an Iowa Cubs game, attendance to our end of the program pool party, a taco from Taco Johns, a Grinch suncatcher, and a book from The Book Shoppe.

The program also includes activity badges, as well as badges for submitting book reviews for books you have read. All of these badges earn you additional tickets.

Please email Mr. Z, Zach Stier, at zstier@boone.lib.ia.us if you have any questions.

TEENS:

Read Off The Beaten Path this summer! Join Ericson Public Library for the 2022 Summer Reading Program. This program is open to Teens & Tweens from Grades 6th - 12th, based on the grade you will be entering in Fall 2022.

You can earn badges by logging reading minutes. For each 3 hours of reading you log, you will earn tickets which you will enter in the end of program prize drawings. The more tickets you earn, the greater your chances of winning! You get to choose which drawings to place your tickets into.

The program also includes activity badges, as well as badges for submitting book reviews for books you have read. All of these badges earn you additional tickets.

Read ANYTHING, i.e. books, Ebooks, magazines, newspapers, comics, manga, the internet (or listen to audiobooks) and log those minutes!

Don't forget to download the Beanstack Tracker App to your mobile device or computer to access this fun Summer Reading Program and watch your progress!

We are hoping you accept this challenge and have a wonderful summer of reading!

Please watch our Facebook page and our website for announcements of fun for both in-person & virtual programs this summer!

This years theme is based on: humanity, nature, culture, and science, as well as programming that demonstrates how libraries and reading can expand our world through kindness, growth, and community. We hope our Ericson Library TEENS will be encouraged to be creative, try new things, explore art, and find beauty in diversity.

Good Luck and Happy Reading! :)

ADULTS:

The 2022 Adult Summer Reading Theme is "Read Beyond the Beaten Path!" This broad, encompassing theme combines camp, adventure, and skill development. By exploring nature, culture, science, and humanity, we try to develop programs that demonstrate how our library and reading can expand your world through kindness, growth, creativity, and community.

"Read Beyond the Beaten Path" can mean many different things!

  • It can literally mean reading about paths or venturing off of a trail and exploring.
  • Or, it can mean reading out of your comfort zone and trying new genres of books.
  • Try different forms of media than you traditionally use such as eBooks, audiobooks, hoopla, or attending an online MasterClass.
  • Summer camp at the library for adults can embrace many different summer experiences such as outdoor concerts, hikes, campfires, exploring local businesses, and READING!
  • We hope our summer theme and program will encourage adults to participate in many outdoor activities in the area parks, Boone Y Camp, Herman Park Pavilion, downtown businesses, and visiting Ericson Public Library for the carnival and the summer programs!

ADULTS are encouraged to be creative, try new things, explore art, and find beauty in diversity by joining the Ericson Public Library Adult Summer Reading Program! Log 20 minutes of reading per day for 6 days each week (total of 120 minutes or 2 hours per week) to earn tickets and badges and qualify for prize drawings! Read ANYTHING, i.e. books, eBooks, magazines, newspapers, the internet (or listen to audiobooks) and log those minutes! Each week completed will earn incrementally more tickets! (example: 1 week completed = 5 tickets, 2 weeks completed = 10 tickets, etc.)

Earn tickets for the prize drawings by writing reviews, keeping a book list of your "summer" books, and completing activities! Do all of the activities, or pick and choose activities to earn tickets for the drawings! Use all of the tickets in one drawing or choose how you want to distribute them for the prizes you want to be considered for! Remember that each ticket entered earns one chance to win a prize. The more tickets entered, the more chances to win! A completion badge will be rewarded if you choose to complete ALL 8 weeks of logging badges, one book review, AND 6 REQUIRED activity badges!

Be sure to follow and check Ericson Public Library's Facebook page and website calendar for upcoming in-person, virtual, and hybrid programs and events!

ADULTS, we are hoping you accept and attempt these challenges and have a wonderful summer of reading and exploring!
