Ericson Public Library Now Open!

The Ericson Public Library is open!  We’re excited to finally serve you in person again.  However, there are some changes to protect public health.  These changes are detailed below.  If you have questions or concerns please contact the library at 515-432-3727 or email us at

What to expect

  • The library hours are the same during the week however we are not open Saturdays until further notice.

  • Please wear a mask to protect yourself and others including staff who are also masked.

    • Please bring a mask with you to the library if you have one.  We have masks available to purchase for $1.00 at any desk.

    • If you cannot wear a mask, please contact the library for other options, including curbside pickup of materials or print jobs and other options.

    • Children 2 years and younger are exempt, but need to stay with their parents.

  • Please follow social distancing rules.  We have signage in the building to remind you.  Please use good judgment and be respectful of others.  We ask that you limit your time in the building.

  • Children must be accompanied throughout the building by someone 16 years old or older.  We ask that families stick together in the building during this time, as children find it hard to social distance.

  • All toys, train tables, puppets, and puzzles have been stored temporarily to reduce high touch zones in the Children’s Department.

  • Summer Reading Program is entirely virtual this year.  Check out our webpage for more details on how to participate and signup!

  • Computer use is limited to a 30 minute session.  Additional computer time can be requested from staff if no one is in line for the computers and you are working on a project.  Be sure to talk to us before your time is up.

  • Staff will work to keep computers and other equipment clean, but if you have concerns, sanitizer will be available.

  • Staff will only be able to provide limited help with computer and devices in order to ensure social distancing.

  • While browsing for books, if you touch a book we kindly request that you put it on the designated tables to be sanitized or quarantined.  Staff will reshelf these items after they have been cleaned.

  • If you are worried about coming into the building, you can send print jobs and fax requests to our Ericson email address, then call our main floor desk at 515-432-3727 ext. 2 to print or fax it out.  We can have it taken out curbside for pickup.  Please keep in mind turnaround time will depend on how busy we are.  We will add the charges to your library account or take payment curbside.

  • Only the restrooms on the main floor will be open for public use.

  • Meeting and study rooms will not be available until further notice.

  • Please return ALL materials in the outdoor book return.  This allows us to safely handle material returns.

  • Please allow 3 days for all materials to be checked off your account due to our quarantining of materials.  Your items will not accrue late fees during this period of time.

  • Materials due prior to our closure March 17th might have late fees, but late fees have not accrued since our closure.  The library has extended all materials due during this period to July 1st.  We will not begin sending overdue or billing notices until August.  If you have any questions regarding materials due dates or late fees please contact the library.

  • Curbside pickup will continue after we reopen.  Hours are 11am and 1pm every day.  The times are subject to change depending on demand.

As always we appreciate your patience and understanding!
